Getting Started

Getting Started - Shopify App Developers

A step-by-step workflow for Shopify app developers: find stores using competitor apps, set up uninstall automations, unlock contacts, and build a repeatable outreach pipeline.

StoreCensus gives Shopify app developers a direct line to their best prospects - stores already using competitor or adjacent apps. This guide walks you through the complete workflow from first login to a running automated pipeline.

Step 1 - Find Stores Using a Specific App

  1. Log in and go to the Dashboard.
  2. Open the Filter Panel on the left.
  3. Expand the Apps section.
  4. In the app search box, type the name of a competitor app or a complementary app (e.g., "Klaviyo", "ReCharge", "Gorgias").
  5. Check the app to add it to your filter. Once selected, a Yes/No dropdown appears next to each app - Yes means the store must have it installed, No means the store must NOT have it installed. You can mix Yes and No across multiple apps.
  6. The data grid updates live. You'll see all stores currently running that app.

Step 2 - Layer on Qualifying Signals

Narrow your list to the best-fit prospects:

  • Revenue range: Expand Monthly Revenue and set a minimum (e.g., $10,000/mo) to filter out micro-stores.
  • Country: If your app targets a specific market, filter by country (e.g., United States, United Kingdom).
  • Platform: Keep it on Shopify if that's your target.
  • App Install Date: Use the date range filter inside the Apps section to find stores that installed the competitor app recently - these are stores actively evaluating tools in your category.

Step 3 - Set Up Uninstall Automations

The best time to pitch your app is the moment a store uninstalls a competitor. Set up an Evergreen Flow to catch these in real time:

  1. Go to Automations in the top navigation.
  2. Click New AutomationAdvanced Builder.
  3. Trigger: Select App EventUninstalled → search for and select the competitor app.
  4. Filter (optional): Add conditions to narrow the trigger - e.g., only fire for stores with monthly revenue above $5,000.
  5. Action: Choose where to send the lead:

- StoreCensus List - adds the store to a list you can work from inside StoreCensus.

- Instantly / Smartlead / Apollo - pushes the store directly into an outreach campaign.

- Webhook / Zapier - sends the data to your CRM or any other tool.

  1. Frequency: Set to "Once per store every 30 days" to avoid duplicate entries if a store reinstalls and uninstalls repeatedly.
  2. Name the automation and save it.

From this point on, every time a store uninstalls that competitor app, StoreCensus automatically routes it to your outreach pipeline.

Step 4 - Unlock Contact Data

  1. In the data grid, click any store row to open the Store Detail panel.
  2. Click Unlock Contact Info (costs 1 credit) to reveal the store's email address.
  3. Click Unlock Decision Makers to see the founders, CTOs, and marketing leads (costs 2 credits per person).
Tip: Use the Export modal to bulk-export contact data for your filtered list. You can filter by email type (Founder Personal, Partnerships, Sales, General) and deliverability score.

Step 5 - Organize with Lists and CRM

  • Create a List called "Competitor Uninstalls - Q3" and add stores to it as they come in.
  • Use CRM Status to track where each store is in your outreach: Contacted → Replied → Negotiating → Closed / Rejected.
  • Use Star Ratings to prioritize high-revenue, high-fit stores.
  • Filter the dashboard by your list to work through it systematically.
