StoreCensus

How we measure data accuracy

Data sources and refresh cadence

  • • We crawl and analyze over 2 million Shopify stores daily
  • • Store data is refreshed every 24-48 hours for active monitoring
  • • App installation data is updated in real-time as we detect changes
  • • Revenue estimates are recalculated weekly using multiple data points
  • • Geographic and demographic data is cross-referenced with multiple sources

How we match stores to apps

  • • We analyze JavaScript files, HTML source code, and network requests
  • • App signatures are identified through unique code patterns and API calls
  • • Manual verification is performed on a sample of stores monthly
  • • We maintain a database of over 10,000 app signatures and growing
  • • False positives are filtered out using machine learning algorithms

Email validation and bounce handling

  • • All email addresses go through syntax and domain validation
  • • We verify MX records and perform SMTP checks where possible
  • • Bounce rates are tracked and emails are flagged if they consistently bounce
  • • Decision maker emails are cross-referenced with LinkedIn and company websites
  • • We maintain a suppression list of known invalid or opted-out addresses

Known limits and edge cases

  • • Some apps may be detected with a delay if they use dynamic loading
  • • Private or password-protected stores may have limited data availability
  • • Revenue estimates are based on traffic and industry benchmarks, not actual sales
  • • New apps may take 24-48 hours to appear in our detection systems
  • • Some contact information may become outdated between refresh cycles
  • • Stores using heavy JavaScript obfuscation may have incomplete app detection
